Who is Carlos?

Carlos is an experienced oboist with more than 25 years of experience. He is currently Oboe Principal Assistant of the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico and is pursuing a doctorate in Music Performance at UC San Diego.

He has a master's degree with Cum Laude, specialized in contemporary oboe, awarded by the Amsterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands.

In addition to his training in contemporary music, chamber music and as a soloist, he has studied baroque oboe and has extensive demonstrated experience in musical pedagogy.

Carlos began his studies at the age of 5 with teacher Boris Glouzman at the UABC Musical Studies Center. He carried out an academic exchange with the CNSMD in Paris under the tutelage of David Walter. He obtained a specialized master's degree in contemporary oboe and chamber music at the Amsterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands, where he received the highest grade "Cum Laude." His main mentors were maestro Ernest Rombout on contemporary oboe, Jan Kouwenhoven on orchestral practices and Alfredo Bernardini on baroque oboe.

In 2013-2014, he was part of the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest Academy and was selected to participate in the Youth Orchestra of the Americas (YOA) in the same year. He has been a guest oboist in prominent orchestras in Mexico and Holland, such as the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, Nederlands Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, Amsterdam Philharmonia, Mexico City Philharmonic and UNAM Philharmonic Orchestra, among others. He has given concerts in Argentina, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, USA, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, to name a few. He was part of the Quintet de Breathos of Mexico City from 2017 to 2023.

In the field of new music, he has collaborated with the IMPULS ensembles in Graz, Austria, the Amsterdam Nieuw Ensemble and was an oboist at the Center for Experimentation and Production of Contemporary Music (CEPROMUSIC) of INBAL, as well as in other ensembles for music festivals. new in Mexico. In early music, using baroque oboe and various period instruments, he has participated in projects and ensembles such as Le concert de la loge with Philippe Jaroussky, Symphonie Atlantique, Antiqva Metropoli, Academia de Música Antigua de la UNAM and the Alfredo Oboe Band Bernardini. He has performed in prominent venues in America and Europe, including Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Musikverein in Vienna.

Since 2016, he has been part of the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico and is currently pursuing a doctorate in music performance at the University of California, San Diego.
